The main purpose of this master thesis is to explore investment policy and EU structural funds on theoretical view and base on practical applicable point by accomplishing research, analysis, comparison and interpretation of results of EU structural funds’ implementation in the tourism sector, to evaluate the benefits of the EU structural funds’ implementation.
The work consists of four main parts; the analysis of literature, the research and its results, conclusion and recommendations.
Literature analysis reviews the theories of investment policy, EU support ant tourism sector, presents the main concepts of investment policy, EU structural funds and tourism, shows their importance as well as indicates the benefits and the advantages of tourism sector in the economy, investment policy and EU support importance in development of tourism sector.
After the literature analysis the author has suggested a few methods to evaluate investment policy and EU structural funds’ implementation: EU methodology, cost-benefit analysis, multiplier models, evaluation of individual tourism investment project. These methods are applied in the study about the implementation of investment policy ant EU structural funds in the tourism sector. The results of these research were compared. The performed research revealed that the implementation of EU structural funds has positive effect but the latter is not sufficient. Furthermore analysis and comparison of tourism sectors’ development in three Baltic countries have been made. It revealed that Estonia shoud be taken as Lithuania’s model.
The conclusions and recommendations summarize the main concepts of literature analysis as well as the results of the performed researches. The author believes that the results of the study could give useful guidelines to the government which is forming and implementing investment policy applying EU structural support and developing tourism sector as one of the underlying sectors in economy.
